Posted by: TOKEN on November 10, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

rolleyes.gif Unlike other ricers this scoop actually works, running 9psi, more pics soon.

Posted by: TOKEN on November 10, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

But i got 140hp on 6psi

Posted by: jamie on November 10, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

Posted by: SABBAi on November 12, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

Nice looking Tx you got there. I love the custom work with fibre glass.

Posted by: zorb_rules on November 13, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

Hey what sorta steering wheel is that?? I love it

Posted by: zorb_rules on November 13, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

Ohh and were ya get the FPV badge?? Flog it?? It looks pretty nice there though

Posted by: TOKEN on November 15, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

the FPV badge was bought for conventries. $40. can also be bought from Ford itself. just say u have a FPV car.

Posted by: zorb_rules on November 16, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

Ohh sweet just thought ya mite have knocked it off *lol* thgought someone's poor ol gt would be getting round without the badges

Posted by: QIK-TX5 on November 16, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

nice lookin tx man, nice custom job on the interior. what sorta paint did ya use 2 spray the dash cos ive wantd 2 do it for a while but didnt know what sorta paint 2 use

Posted by: TOKEN on November 16, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

to paint all the plastic bits u have to use like a wax n grease romover first. then plastic primmer and then any auto-motive paint u want. i used silver metalic, u can put a clear coat on top to give it a real gloss finish, but its up to u.

Posted by: SABBAi on November 18, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

Looking good. Like how your bonnet scoop is functional. I also like what you did with the standard grill.

Posted by: zorb_rules on November 19, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

Hey dude just wondering how much did the conversion to a manula cost you?? mines an auto and I want to convert it soon just wanna know about prices...

Posted by: TOKEN on November 19, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

the actual gear box i got off a mate who crashed his 91 mx. so i got all the parts i needed (g-box, shifter, pedel box, drive shafts, mast clutch cycl, etc) for like $700. and then its cost me an extra $200 to put in as the engine was already out and they just did the conversion like that.

Posted by: NEXNL9 on November 21, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

nice lookn tx5 bro but w8 till my tx5 is out ul soon see it on her

Posted by: QIK-TX5 on December 15, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

very soon im going to purchase a k'n'n pod filter and build a custom cold air intake from the pod to the front bumper, and i was wondering if anyone could tell me what sort of performance gains i am going to achieve by doing this. what sort of kw increase am i looking at roughly? thanks

Posted by: SABBAi on December 16, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

Your engine bay looks very much like mine laugh.gif

Posted by: Skena on December 17, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

Look, i wouldn't take this as exact numbers, but potentially, with a fully sealed box with a good flow from low down on the front bar should possibly see something in the 3-5kw region. Now another thing you will also notice switching from a panel filter to a pod filter is the extra noise, as pod filters are a lot louder.

Can't load the pics for your car, but working from memory on what your engine bay is like, the most effective way i can think you could set it up would be to re locate the battery, for maximum space and ease, but if this is not practical, build a sealed box behind the battery, and run sum three inch flexi piping down around the battery area (wherever you can, although it would be very close to the exhaust, not good) and have it pick up from teh left brake duct. for attaching the pipe to the bar, a cheap and effective option is to use a funnel, cut it so that it fits the flexi pipe, and attach the funnel to the back of the bar, however practical.

Good luck with it.

Posted by: zorb_rules on December 18, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

Actually the most effective way if you dont want a sealed box is just to remove the stock airbox which sits behind the battery and sit the pod filter in it's place. if you want I can post some photos up of how my pod and cai are made alternatively go to this website... http://members.optushome.com.au/bazpam/MX6/cai.htm its how to create the cai for a mx6 quite similar to our tx5 or visit sabbai's car domain webp[age as hey also has some photos of how he created his cai.... Also if you do not want a pod it is quite esy to fix a cold air intake to the end of the stcok air box and run a high flow flat panel filter instead

Posted by: QIK-TX5 on December 20, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

thanks for that, both of you guys smile.gif i was considering putting a K'n'N flat panel filter in the stock airbox and running some flexi pipe directly from the box down to the front bumper, but i dont know whether i would get a bigger kw increase by doing that or by putting in a pod and then running the flexi pipe from there. im not sure :S

Posted by: zorb_rules on December 20, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

yeah mate well from the investigation ive done I found out that the hi flow panel....with the cai worked just aswell as the pod so I originally went for for the hi flo but ive changed to the pod 4 the sound smile.gif

Posted by: Skena on December 20, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

Yeah look, as well as the panel is over oiled or anything, the power gain seen between each is negligble, so the only extra gain you get from using a pod filter is that it adds a bit more induction note to your car. Good luck with whichever option you choose. cool.gif

Posted by: QIK-TX5 on December 20, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

the exhaust i've got at the moment makes my ride loud enough for my liking, so i'll most likely go with a K n N hi flow flat panel filter in the stock box, + the custom CAI. could you guys possibly tell me some other mod's i could do on my n/a to increase power? nothing really expensive tho. i was thinkin extractors, hi flow cat. not sure what they're likely to cost me or what sort of gains im looking at though. any ideas? i appreciate the help guys, thanx

Posted by: zorb_rules on December 20, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

Hi flow cat ya looking around 400 bucks depending on the brand thats labour included...umm I dunna know what else ya could do umm maybe injectors and stuff but yeah..get it chipped smile.gif that'll help Other tahn taht Im all outta ideas
Soz..

Posted by: QIK-TX5 on January 23, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

hey thanks zorb. jus 1 more quick question. in terms of ball park figures, what sort of performance gains should i get from a chip and whats it likely to cost me? oh and btw, i bought the pod biggrin.gif i get an extra 500rpm and 10km/h in each gear, and its not louder, it just has more of a jappy noise to it...wihch i like smile.gif

Posted by: Skena on January 24, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

With n/a motors, the best way to improve performance is to increase flow to and from the motor, before anything that requires opening the motor. This means things like panel or pod filter with proper ducting and sheilding from heat (ie. exhaust manifolds.) Then on the exhaust side you go for extractors and the rest of the exhaust system. Please note that it is easy to go too big in diameter for a n/a, particularily a four cylinder car. DOn't go above about a 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 at very most. Your exhaust tip can be as big as you like, but the reszt of the system should be no larger than above stated. If you go larger, your only robbing yourself of power. With a turbocharged engine, there is in theory no such thing as to big after the the compressor. Marke sure the gaps on your spark plugs are correct, and the plugs are the right ones for your engine, sometimes some free power can be had here. But all the above mods with a chip/remapped ecu can have a very noticable difference to the power deiverly, driving and of course power of your car.
But yeah, you are looking at 400 or more for any mod, be it cat, chip or whatever.

Posted by: QIK-TX5 on January 29, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

thanks for that man. i've decided to start saving and buy an at tx5 turbo. im looking at the moment for one with low k's (which will be hard to find) and in the two toned white/grey. the average price ive found them for is $5k, and i've got a couple of people who have said they would pay $4k for my current tx, so once i save up $3k i'll buy an AT Turbo and straight away do some mod's smile.gif could you guys plz keep me posted if you see any for sale in vic (doesnt have to be the previously stated colour) it would be appreciated. thanks guys

Posted by: Kev_man on March 2, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

yeah token wattup,

it is the rpm signal/tachometer. The thing is i can't find it. Its either that or a trigger of the negative ignition coil and im having trouble with that too cause its in the distributer cap. Any ideas.

Kev

p.s car is a toyota camry 89 carbi 3s-f

Posted by: TOKEN on March 8, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

my mate with the turbo camry found the tacho wire off the back of the original instrument cluster, on the back of his there are some screws and he found it on there written on the back. i think i shows u where it is in the manuals that u can buy for them.

Posted by: BJaw on March 9, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

Hi Token,

I've seen your car somewhere in Noranda. Very nice car.
I 've been driving a 1988 white Tx5-Turbo for 2 years, living in Noranda too.
Is it ok if we meet up and I'm sure we'll have lots to talk about?

I will post my profile a soon as I take photos of my car.

Posted by: zorb_rules on March 15, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

NICE FMIC what siz eis that?? I like it..did ya have to remove ya thermo fan of ac or anthing?? How much did it set you back??

Posted by: TOKEN on March 15, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

cheers man. its a 450x300x75, cost me $250 new, didn't have to remove anything. it just hangs infront of th a/c thermo's

Posted by: zorb_rules on March 16, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

NIce where did ya get it from if ya dont mind me asking and is there much improvement smile.gif I was loking for one bout that size.

Posted by: TXXX-5 on March 17, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

Love the boost gauge position. Your all set with power from the clock wire wink.gif looks neat as 2 biggrin.gif

Posted by: TOKEN on March 23, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

not good. My wastegate has gone. hits 17psi at #3000rpm then beeps. huh.gif have to change it this weekend crying.gif anybooy know if it can be done on the car. coz i realy dont want to have to take the whole turbo of again. crying.gif

Posted by: TOKEN on March 23, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

oh closer inpection i think i have to. sad.gif

Posted by: zorb_rules on March 23, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

what do you mean it beeps?? snt that boost cut/fuel cut?? or do you have an fcd or aftermarket comp??

Posted by: TOKEN on March 24, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

the standard comp beeps when to much boost and cuts the car back to idle.

Posted by: zorb_rules on March 24, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

yeah tahst boost cup stops starving ay car of fuel at too much boost..it shoudlnt be ya wastegate or anything. It just means ya cant run anymore boost without a fcd or aftermarket comp. mine hits boost cut at 14psi.

Posted by: xtreme tx5 on March 25, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

hey bro i like ya parcel shelf man. i got a tx5 i'll be puttin up soon got a microtech and runnin 14psi gettin dyno'd soon find out how much power its got. your interior is lookin to man keep it up bro

Posted by: QIK-TX5 on May 5, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

dude howcome you dyno'd it at only 6psi? im assuming that 140hp is at the fronts?

Posted by: TOKEN on May 5, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

coz at the time i dyno'd it i didnt have the controller. and yeh its at the fronts.

Posted by: TX5_turbo15 on June 21, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

hey token, saw ur sweet ride a few weeks back in carousel up the top in the car park, i had the black tx5 turbo that rolled passed real slow, and yeah was hell excited to see it off the internet and close up, i want that scoop, how much did it cost, and u said it works, how? and u have a pod under it or something? thanx for reading

Posted by: TOKEN on June 23, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

hey dude, yeh i think i remember seeing ya car. the scoop was $70 was japwreck i think. the whole is cut directly above the scoop so its a great cold air intake. if u have a close look at the top right of the engine bay photo u can see it alittle. wot plans u got for ur car

Posted by: TX5_turbo15 on June 26, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

i have a lot of plans for my car hey, just finding the time and money is gonna be hard coz i am young and cant save money to save my life, so thinking about getting a small loan to chip it, remap and program the ecu to my needs (taking into consideration the over sized injectors etc and shit like that) ummm i also want to boost it obviously to about 9-10 psi, i would love to get close to 200hp out of it if i could, and most of all have it running 13's and i will be stoked. i am respraying it soon, i dont know if i should keep the two tone (another colour eg. no standard colours on top of the grey) but we will see. and rims 17x7's unless i can fit bigger. also what else, the obvious upgrades, cold air intake, pod filter, bigger intercooler.

Posted by: turbo_boy on June 29, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

get ready to pay for some gearboxes, mate.... tx5's boxes are fukn shit

Posted by: TX5_turbo15 on June 29, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

just got a new gearbox, reconditioned one for $990 and gonna get old one rebuilt, im sure i will be alright

Posted by: turbo_boy on June 30, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

Where did u find a box from, caus im currently looking around for a second hand or reco one
thanks heaps

Posted by: TX5_turbo15 on June 30, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

i live in WA and they are really scarce (anywhere in australia i guess) but a place called, Uniparts in Welshpool (W.A) and yeah they have a range of tx5 parts, i dont know if they have another gear box or not but always worth a call... the problem with tx5 gearboxes is that.. they dont have 2 shaft bearings, they only have one situated inside the actual box connected to the shaft, the shaft at the other end is by itself and if it has no oil in it destroys it and slowly wears away, listen to ur car while it is idleing and if u can hear a faint whistle put ur clutch in and if it goes away that means ur box is about to go... thats probably the only way to tell without dropping the box all together

Posted by: turbo_boy on July 1, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

yeah i know that shhhhhhhhh sound wen the clutch is out, the only box i could find was in Nsw, $1400, hope its not another dud..

Posted by: TX5_turbo15 on July 1, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

if u can hear that shhhhhh sound, ur car is gonna start jumping out of gear soon and then u will really notice it. that gearbox for $1400 is too expensive unless they are gonna fit it too which then isnt too bad. but depending if u live in another state then i guess u cant really fit it can u and the price is way too expensive... lets just hope some poor bastard wrecks his this weekend hey?

Posted by: TX5_turbo15 on July 1, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

Posted by: TOKEN on August 10, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

sorry dude i cant at the moment its all getting redone, my Turbo blow on the weekend so its in the shop at the moment gettting a GT28 RS BB turbo and all new piping done. but when i've got it back i'll definatly be putting photos up dont worry.

Posted by: natas-tx5 on August 22, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

hey bro thats a sweet as ride love wat u done to it looks like u put alot of money n hard work in to it

Posted by: TOKEN on August 23, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

Alittle to much money now. starting to think whether it was worth it on such a old car

Posted by: qiktelstar on August 24, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

is it possible 2 fit a cooler with less height so it fits without cutting into bumper..by puttin it in front of electric fan as i dont want my car to be anything other than stock 2 look at

Posted by: TOKEN on August 25, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

you can put the coolers in, but you will have to take out the those fans to get it to fit. but then that will affect your air con because those fans are for the air con condenser(i think) so the only other alturnative would be to cut the bumper.

Posted by: qiktelstar on August 27, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

yeah i am gonna fuck the air con off it doesnt work anyway so its goneskies

Posted by: sparkieX5 on August 30, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

i have the same model, standard atm. where u get the exhaust ? looks awesome! mine is identical in looks except ur mods. r there any cruises for our beloved cars ?

Posted by: TOKEN on August 31, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

in perth theres not alot for just our cars. i got my exhaust for $500 turbo back from balcatta carline mufflers. my car might be for sale soon, with everything seen here. havent decided yet. i might be getting a R32 GTR.

Posted by: qiktelstar on September 1, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

4 a power upgrade is there a motor that fits into engine bay without 2 much headache that is easier 2 extract power from

Posted by: zorb_rules on September 1, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

yep the FE3 DOHC the f2t bit sister smile.gif wasnt available in oz but was in new zealand ,canada, japan and a few other places..theres quite a few in oz now and cost about 900-1200 for the full setup including ecu's etc...althoguh would be ebst to use aftermarket. These engines arent turbo's standard but can be turbo'd with great results!

Posted by: MR.TRBO on September 18, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

would love to see pics of ya piping for ya cooler plz

Posted by: TOKEN on September 19, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

hey dude soz man i havent got the car back yet. the f*ching guys that are doing are giving me the shits. its bin 5weeks now. i'm gonna pull the plug on em coz they haven't shite. they've started the piping and thats it. i'll keep ya posted.

Posted by: sparkieX5 on September 21, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

hey, can u plz email me the list of all the places that u got all ur upgrades from? im just starting to do mine up and urs is lovely, cheers ( sparkie05@hotmail.com ) i havent seen u driving around anywhere in perth....... ever sad.gif any reason why?

Posted by: TOKEN on September 28, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

exhaust and bov installed at carline exhausts in balcatta. all interior stuff (ie, fibre glassing nad stereo and gauges) done myself, bonet scoop done myself, intercooler mounted myself. i rebuilt the moter with help from uncle and manual conversion done by MAZPARTS in midvale. suspension by wilkensons in bayswater.

as for not seeing my around, i dunno are u north or south, coz i'm north and dont really do south that often. apart from that i cant explain it.

Posted by: SABBAi on October 2, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

Have you got that coole hooked up yet bro?

Posted by: TOKEN on October 3, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

nar not yet stll trying to get the car working. got the turbo back and on, but now i got no oil flowing anywhere. the oil pump is brand new, the metal oil line to the turbo itself it brand new and i've taken the oil cooler off and fully clean't it out, n still nothing. i think its the oil pickup line in the sump could be blocked or something sad.gif any ideas would be good.

Posted by: zorb_rules on October 3, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

i had the same problem when I did mine (blew the turbop and repalced it) had no oil flowing turned out a breatehr hsoe was blocked...

Posted by: TOKEN on October 3, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

u mean one of the ones on the rocker cover to the throttle body and the other to just behind the air meter.

Posted by: zorb_rules on October 3, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

yeah i think so all I knwo is gave it back to the mechanic after id noticed blowing smoke and no oil flow and he said there was a blocked breather hose...

Posted by: TOKEN on October 3, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

cool i might try that b4 i pull of the sump and check the oil pickup line. cheers, i hope its that easy.

Posted by: TOKEN on October 4, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

its not that easy, so the sump is coming off, FUN FUN FUN shutup.gif

Posted by: TOKEN on October 10, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

Turned out to be the Oil Pressure relief valve was stuck in the oil pump ts self. should get the car back soon.

Posted by: gombatron2000 on October 18, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

how do you have your intercooler piping set up?

Gday mate <
im buying a tx5 2.2l turbo this week only fault with it is a lifter noise?? is it expensive to fix in your opinion can you email me please jefferson@iinet.net.au
thanks mate

Posted by: BJaw on January 1, 2006 [ Car Profile ]

Hey Woodz,

Lifters noise is one of the very common problem with this type of car.
Can be either a) HLA maintenence, or ) loose exhaust manifold.
I had my HLA cleaned (thanks to people who helped in this forum) and the
noise since gone.

To clean your HLA, click Articles -> click Technical Articles -> Click HLA Maintenance.
My mechanic charged me $200 for this job, which I was happy to pay.

Posted by: woodz on February 25, 2006 [ Car Profile ]

hey tokes,
its woodz again was just wondering how you have your air filter setup and does it matter if it gets wet or anything like that
thanks mate
if u wanna add me on msn j3ffo@hotmail.com cheers

Posted by: TOKEN on February 27, 2006 [ Car Profile ]

Hey woodz. in the middle of building a new comp but when its up i will.

the air filter is a K&N pod filter. because of the bonnet scoop the air filter is directly under the whole in the bonnet. water can be a problem. if its just a light rain i dont worry bout it to much coz the filter is oiled so it will stop most of the water also i have put some mesh inside the bonnet scoop (theory is, water will hit the mesh and make it spray rather than run.) seems to work. if it rains heavy i put a cloth in the scoop to block the whole.

Posted by: gombatron2000 on March 3, 2006 [ Car Profile ]

well thats gotta suck init?\
