Keep up the excellent work for Ford!
And hows about some power figures?

Posted by: TTXR8 on June 12, 2003 [ Car Profile ]

I'll get it dynoed when i get it sorted, i've still got a few bugs to iron out.

Watch this space!! lol

Posted by: EvilChief on June 13, 2003

yea will be doing that icon4.gif

should pull some nice numbers on the dyno and on the track ... looking forward to it ...

mhm how much fun it is to tune TT setups ...
/sarcasm off

Posted by: TTXR8 on June 13, 2003 [ Car Profile ]

Well i'll let you know when i finish tuning it, i'm using an autronic smc and i'm still learning how to tune everything but that's just a learning curve you go through when you do everything yourself. I think it's much more rewarding when you make the effort to build everything yourself, although i wish i had the money to get someone else to do it while i sat back and watched with a beer in my hand! biggrin.gif

I'll get some more pics on here shortly.

hey man, fully sik car. i want to turbo charge an ED XR8, how much did it cost u to get it how it is now???

Well i made it to Springnats in Shepparton and i must say i had a ball! Left home on thursday for a stint on JPC's dyno but had major dramas with detonation so all we could do is wind the timing right back and richen her up so it would be safe to drive.
Then came friday when i was supposed to be going to scrutineering but found myself working on my car for 14 hours due to a wiring loom shorting out on the body, so after 2 hours i finally found the damaged loom behind the headlight and while i was in the mood i decided to take the turbos off to fix some persistant oil leaks and fit some colder plugs.
Then having thought things over for a bit i realised that the boost pressure was too much for the EGR valve and was holding it open which was pumping exhaust back through the engine! (not good for detonation)!! So having fixed the oil leaks and fitting the plugs i made a plate to block the EGR valve and head out to do some tuning, needless to say the HP almost doubled with some more timing and less fuel!
Saturday came and i was off to the car wash and scrutineering before going into DECA and there was plenty of sexy girls there!! oh and some nice cars too.
I entered to spear a spud with my mate and had a reasonable run before going in the go to woah where i seemed to do pretty well and made it into the top 20 or so cars for the final on sunday.
But before going back to the nats on sunday i decided to do some more tuning on the saturday night and added some more boost and then she was really flying although the auto wasn't happy about the new found power! Anyway i won my first heat against a blown rod before coming up against a brand new whipple supercharged monaro with slicks and yes he beat me thanks to my auto sticking in first and just over shooting the finish line, but hey i'll be back next year to give him a floggin! lol.
Then i put her up for the dyno challenge and after having givin her a pasting all weekend the head gasket let go on the first run and could only manage 281 hp at 3500rpm and 1000 lbft of torque at 2000rpm.

But she got me the 500kms back home!!! ahh well, off come the heads and out with the piece of shit tranny. Hopefully i make it to summernats in Jan! crying.gif

Sounds like you had a blast... If you are ready i will be checking your car out at summernats! looking forward to it! cool.gif

Posted by: ELXR8 on December 13, 2003

I was hoping to be the first and now its looking like i wont be the 2nd to have a hardcore el XR8, the only other one ive seen is a supercharged one that pushes 305kw at the wheel
in a street machine mag.
Im sure you can get blitz that figure especially cause you got turbos maybe 400kw at the wheels.
Anyway

Well Done!!

Go FORD!!

Good job with the car.

I think there is a fair bit more tunning required and i believe you can get HEAPS more out of it.

I have a Single turbo EL XR6 producing 414hp at the rear wheels, so i'm sure you can get 500 hp or more.

Good luck with it all.

Posted by: TTXR8 on January 19, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

Yes it does have a lot of potential but after some inaccurate machining it's having head gasket trouble. But i'm buying a complete 5L out of an AU to replace it and then i'm selling it due to some financial trouble, believe me it's a VERY reluctant sale! crying.gif

Posted by: v8eater on February 3, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

Posted by: TTXR8 on February 4, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

Not sure if i'll sell with the turbo setup on but if i do it'll be $32,000 or without turbos $26,000. FIRM!!

Posted by: Guest_Guest_v8eater on February 5, 2004

i would only buy it with the turbos. 32k sounds good. is it legal

Posted by: TTXR8 on February 5, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

probably need an engineers report but i'm not sure, i doubt there'd be too many dramas with it but you'd have to check it out.

Posted by: TX5_turbo15 on December 16, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

well, to the question asked quite a while back in ur profile "is it legal?" yes it is legal because the only restrictions really on supercharging or turbocharging V8's are on holden 5.7L models, which ur not allowed to supercharge them, so ur in the clear with ur car, no need to worry about it being illegal

Posted by: Skena on December 17, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

Yeah, i think that there must be a lot more portential for that motor, was that dyno figure with the timing retarded, boost down low and running real rich ??

And in reply to TX5_turbo15, umm, is that in your state or what, because it is perfectly legal in victoria to have a capa supercharger kit fitted to your gen 3 5.7l v8. They have gone through all the engineering for it, so yeah, that has got me curious.

Posted by: jetpilot69 on December 25, 2004 [ Car Profile ]

I've got a XH XR8 ute which i'm seriously considering doing the same thing to, I live in Vic so I was wondering where you went to get it all done and what the approx costing was to get it all done

Posted by: TX5_turbo15 on February 15, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

i think it might only be in W.A. that it is illegal to have 5.7L's fitted with superchargers (other wise u have to pay a mighty big fee to get a permit for the bastard) and yes, mate, im not giving u shit or anything like that but i do believe ur car should be running better times? is it auto or manual? (i didnt read it all)

Posted by: nick81xd on February 28, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

oh my god w00t.gif
that is awesome

My project is the EL 6 with a GT40 bolted to the side put into a XD. seen examples of 350Kw at the wheels, high 10's low 11's

Posted by: Skena on March 1, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

Yeha, i would be surprised if QLD had the same law about 5.7 been supercharged, they are often strict on things automotive.
I will agree that the car should be turning out higher number and better track results, or are you running low boost with the timing retarded and running real rich ?? As thats the only reason i can think, does your exhaust blow smoke, personally, i would go and get it tuned. A guess would be that your ecu is out of its league if its not any of the above reasons.
WOuld really love to see this thing screaming away on a dyno tuned properly on a tank of optimax, the thing would probably jump out the rollers, hell, you could be the second person to see over 1000hp atw on a autosaloon dyno

Posted by: Guest_MisterTurbo on April 27, 2005

Ahahahaha, icon4.gif you got a Good, fast lil XR8 there, but i recommend ya put some front, rear bumpers and side skirts, jus to make yer car look scary and like a supercar.

Like my car, an HSV GTS. I stuffed in it two bloody turbos and its got a redesigned front bumper, rear bumper and side skirts. It also has a Bonnet scoop and sounds more like a V10 than a bent eight. And i also managed to fit 22" rims on it.

Of course, in reply to TX5_Turbo15, In NSW it is actually legal to supercharge 5.7s or GENIIIs, but in OZ its illegal to...ummm this will sound weird, but to Turbochrage Motorbikes. its possible to do that, but to do that u have 2 take apart almost the engine and to fit and connect the turbo.

dry.gif P.S:By the way, did you connect the turbos properly?

Posted by: zorb_rules on April 28, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

ntw do you really have a car where are the pcis including under bonnet shot nd dyno figures..ya sound liek ya know shit all...another kid on school holidays??? POst soem pics and ill retratc all this

Posted by: Skena on May 3, 2005 [ Car Profile ]

Illegal to turbocharge motorbikes ???? You do realise that this is only possible to do on four stroke motorbike engines, and supercharging is the only form of forced induction possible on a two stroke, due to gas flow characteristics. Even then it is possible to legally turbocharge motorbikes - there is a street registered turbocharged harley davidson in either vic or nsw (can't remember off top of my head.)

As for your 22 inch rimmed hsv gts, i don't beleive you. the well known street machine FATGTO only had 22 on the back for a reason - they don't fit on the front. And if you have your supposedly have your twin turbo setup, you wouldn't ahve sufficient clearance, due to the new fron inner guards that would be needed to clear wheels that big. Show some proof and ill appologise humbly, otherwise stop wasting peoples time by talking shit.

Posted by: Guest_Rotary_lover on May 19, 2005

wink.gif Dude if u wanna see REAL twin turbo sleepers have a look at lIlsIckboI's profile man, it is just four letters:S I C K!! But i have to say it is a nice car, and i never new a V8 Turbo could have 1000Nm, it sounds like impossible. u should go to the dynos and give us some proof man

Posted by: Guest_New SS on June 3, 2005

NS MAN!! biggrin.gif that car is so good and i rckn my car should be lightweight so it can b topped up. Keep the great wrk up mate!
